The NCNA On Breaking our Dependence on Foreign Oil

Reshaping of the GOP Part III

In this part the GOP outlines its ideas for energy independence. A topic that is a hot debate in this country. After paying $4+ a gallon for gas last summer, we are all reminded of how crucial a topic this is. So much has been put on the table however, we need to move forward and begin to institute plans to break our dependence on foreign oil. Here outlined is the Republican's idea on how to achieve this.

Energy: Solutions for Energy Independence

American families and businesses cannot afford an energy policy where we are held hostage by foreign oil cartels and dictators. As a nation, we can no longer send billions of dollars overseas each year, often to countries that help fund our enemies. We must implement a comprehensive energy policy that includes traditional fuels, alternative energy, and conservation resulting in affordable, reliable domestic energy. Such a policy will stabilize costs for families and businesses while at the same time creating much-needed jobs here at home.

Traditional Fuels:

America has vast resources of untapped oil, natural gas, and coal. However, government regulations and frivolous lawsuits are preventing us from utilizing these resources. We propose reforming the current system to permit environmentally responsible use of domestic resources. Conservative estimates indicate that these efforts could yield 200 plus years worth of new American resources.

Alternative Energy:

We have the power to significantly increase our clean energy resources through the development of wind, solar, biomass, nuclear power and other alternative energy sources. The government can speed up the development of these resources by leading the way in research. Once developed, regulatory and legal barriers often complicate the deployment of these resources, especially in areas under federal control..more...
